With the introduction of Mountain Lion in 10.8 (Zinfandel), it was clear that Apple was resuming its annual upgrade cycle again, to iteratively make changes to the operating system to keep up with new technology and user expectations. OS X 10.5 Leopard (Chablis) led to the "no new features" feature release of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, which lead to OS X 10.7 Lion (Barolo). And so Apple was able to migrate successfully to a different microprocessor architecture without having to start over at square one. Fortunately, Apple hedged its bets, and had been working to keep OS X operating on Intel hardware as well. By 2005 the PowerPC chip that had served as the basis for Macs throughout the 90s was pushing its limits. The Intel vetted app works with 2nd Generation to 6th Generation Intel Core processors, and keep in mind that you cannot use it to monitor Intel Atom. Was perfect for stressing: Together with the Intel-Power-Gadget one could manually find good parameters to get the temperature to fluctuate most extremely (e.g. Intel Power Gadget is a macOS application that can help users get real-time information about the performance of Intel processors without having to depend on third party equipment and instruments. Not sure if that already would qualify for a new logic board from Apple. This is with a fixed benchmark duration setting (e.g. Worked just fine for a wile, but since recently rather frequently the GPUtest just stalls at its end and does not quit. Running GPUtest (for OSX, 圆4_0.7.0) from the command line to stress the GPU (you know, late-2011 Macbook Pro's, 15" or 17", all suffer from Radeongate.
